On Nov. 23rd, 2020 Dr. Mechie Nkengla (Chief Data Strategist for Data Products LLC) will give a talk on “An Odyssey from Mathematics to Data Science” for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Abstract: With Data Science considered one of the hottest jobs of the decade, it is tempting to take that path to ensure better job security along with favorable compensation. So, how does one take that path? In this talk, Dr. Nkengla shares the trials and successes of her journey from mathematician to chief data officer over the course of two decades. Dr. Nkengla’s talk will address lessons learned, mistakes made, and how she leveraged mathematics every step of the way.
